SALTS

Before salt became refined, processed and free flowing as we know it today, it was necessary to serve it in a salt cellar. In the early 1800's, the master salt was placed by the host and passed from person to person.

STEUBEN GLASS

WEDDING CHAIR

Very, very, victorian ! A chair made of bronze dore' leaves, birds, mirrors ( some enamelled ) and wax flowers. This beautiful piece was used to hold the brides flowers before and after the wedding ceremony and dates 1850 to 1870.

RS PRUSSIA

RS Prussia appears in several marks used on porcelain before 1917. Reinhold Schlegelmilch started his porcelain works in Suhl, Germany, in 1869.

LUSTRES

Lustres are mantle decorations or pedestal vases with many hanging glass prisms, and it is proper to refer to a single glass prism as a lustre. Either spelling, luster or lustre, is correct. Lustres were very popular during the latter part of the 19th century and were usually in pairs.
